Once Upon a Time...
Over 20 years, April Mawhinney has created artwork for kitchen textiles and home décor brands across the UK. In 2020, she opened her own studio to translate her intricate illustrations into wallpaper and fabric. These designs are drawn from the entwining patterns of William Morris, native poisonous plants, and folkloric tales of the British countryside.
Today, working from her studio between the South Downs and the sea in West Sussex, April designs every pattern by hand before it's printed in the UK on OEKO-TEX certified fabric and eco-conscious wallpaper base. Her work has been featured in The Guardian and Fabric Magazine, and used by home owners from London to Los Angeles, and interior designers including Nicola Gill in projects such as the 18th-century Old Stout House in Rye, Sussex.
