Wallpaper Hanging Instructions
All wallpaper supplied by April Mawhinney Illustration is intended to be used in residential and light commercial environments, interior walls only.
The wallpaper is for use in dry, well ventilated indoor environments.
Before you start
Make sure that your wall covering is intact and has not been damaged in transit. Unpack carefully.
This is a paste the wall product. The decorator should paste the wall and not the back of the wallcovering.
For best results use a good quality, solvent free, fungicide protected ready-mixed 'tub' adhesive should be used.
Make sure that you have adequate lighting - so that you can inspect the material properly while you are hanging it and after it is in position.
Make sure that the area you are hanging the wall covering in is well-ventilated and at least 12°C (55°F).
If you don’t feel confident in hanging the wall covering yourself, contact a professional decorator.
Surface preparation
Scrub the wall area you are covering with a stiff bristle brush to remove all dirt and loose material.
Clean your walls, using a detergent or sugar soap solution to remove any grease or surface marks. Allow to dry thoroughly before applying the wall covering.
Mould on the wall surface should be treated with a fungicidal wash, using the instructions on the product. Allow to dry thoroughly before applying the wall covering.
Any holes, cracks or defects in the surface should be filled with good quality filler, smoothed out and allowed to dry.
Remember: a dry surface is the right surface - so if you have to make repairs, be patient! Make sure your wall is completely dry before continuing.
Bare plastered walls must be sealed first with appropriate wall sealant before installation.
For best results, we recommend walls are cross-lined using a good quality lining paper. sizing the lining paper will aid adhesion.
Lining paper should be allowed to dry out completely before hanging the wallpaper.
Pasting and Hanging
This is a paste the wall product. The decorator should paste the wall and not the back of the wallcovering.
A good quality, solvent free, fungicide protected ready-mixed 'tub' adhesive should be used. Always review the ingredient information prior to use and, if you have known sensitivities or allergies, wear suitable protective gloves.
Wallpaper can be trimmed using decorator's scissors, ensuring they are in good condition, handle them with a controlled grip while cutting away from the body in a clear, well-lit workspace and remain aware of risks such as cuts, slips, and misuse.
Paste should be evenly applied to the wall to hang one length at a time, to an area slightly wider.
Butt joints and use a decorator's brush to smooth down the wallcovering, working from the centre to the edges to express air bubbles.
Avoid squeezing paste out of the joints and ensure paste does not get onto the brush or roller.
No paste should be allowed to come into contact with the surface and hands should be kept clean and dry whilst hanging the wallcovering.
Paste will damage the surface. We cannot accept responsibility for marks or damage caused by paste.
Should any paste have been allowed to come into contact with the surface, it should be lightly sponged whilst still moist, using a clean damp sponge.
Aftercare
Should your wallpaper become dirty, wipe clean with a sponge and mild, soapy water. Clean only when necessary, and use as little moisture as possible. Do not rub hard: the inks will not run, but surface of the wallpaper may become compromised.
Please ensure that the area in which the wallpaper is installed is used in well ventilated rooms, and does not come into direct contact with water. In kitchens and bathrooms, please ensure these are ventilated to reduce mould and splashbacks are used to keep water away from wallpaper.
Our wallpaper complies to EU, UK and USA fire safety standards as listed on each roll of wallpaper.
There is a very low risk of fading due to direct UV exposure. Please avoid prolonged and direct sunlight.
All wallpaper is non-toxic and is made from Foresty Stewardship Council (FSC) approved paper substrates using HP water-based latex inks. All of our wallpapers can be disposed off in standard household waste.
