Back at the end of April 2017, I popped up to London, to the Fashion & Textiles Museum to see an exhibition of the amazing textile & pattern designs of Josef Frank.

His work was always something I knew about in passing, but not in much detail. I'd always loved that Swedish modernist style, but, like many things in life, had not investigated it much... it was always on my endless (very full) to-do list.
Background: Working from 1933 for Svenskt Tenn (iconic Swedish design company), Austrian born Josef moved his family to Stockholm to be a part of the team. The partnership between Estrid Ericson (founder of Svenskt Tenn) lasted 30 years, with so many iconic colourful modernist designs being produced.
I loved the room set shown below. It features pieces by Svenskt Tenn's current collections (yup, they are still going strong) and included furniture & textiles by Josef Frank. I wish I had a room in my house that looked like this... *Drool*
I was also intrigued and excited to see the printed fabrics along side the original hand-painted artwork. The artwork showed how the repeating patterns where planned and created. As a repeating pattern nut (always mentally picking apart a fabric design to see if repeat, and how it is constructed), this was like pattern-porn for me! :)
Its a shame the exhibition closed at the beginning of May 2017, so I'm seeking out my next Josef Frank & Svenskt Tenn fix as soon as I can.
