Unveiling the Radiance: Embracing Yellow interiors!

Yellow!

Today, I’m delving into Yellow interiors, yellow wallpaper and yellow fabrics!

It's February 2024, and Spring is on it’s way here in the U.K.

I can feel the promise of daffodils, warmer sunnier days and bright yellow fields full of rapeseed.

So when I launched my wallpaper and fabrics in 2022, I was absolutely set on having yellow as one of my signature colours. It's a statement, a testament to the bold and the beautiful, and I absolutely believe that colour can transform our interior spaces so they become a reflections of our unique personalities.

Yellow's ‘zestiness’ gives your room warmth and energy, instantly providing a bit of cheerfulness. My studio space is painted in Farrow and Ball Babouche No. 233, and it makes me happy all year round. It is an east facing space and we have trees, houses and fences near us, so for quite a lot of the winter, it doesn’t get direct sunlight. In the winter (and even in summer mornings), the light is inherently cool and blue, and I love the warmth the yellow brings to this space.

Then around March, when the rotation of the earth shifts the UK into Spring, the sun enters the room in the afternoons, and illuminates the walls - making them seem to shine like gold! Honestly, I feel like I have found my happy colour, as it makes my heart sing!!

So, if that isn’t reason enough to have a splash of yellow in your home, here are a few more reasons:

1. Energetic Euphoria: Yellow, the colour of sunshine and happiness!! It infuses any space with an irresistible zest for life. Its cheerful disposition instantly uplifts moods and creates an atmosphere brimming with positive energy. Whether adorning walls or accentuating accessories, yellow makes every moment feel like a sun-kissed celebration.

2. Bold Expression: In a world filled with lots of grey (grey skies, grey roads, grey architecture) yellow emerges as a beacon of bold expression and individuality. It invites us to break free from the ordinary and embrace the extraordinary. Whether used sparingly as an accent or boldly as a focal point, yellow empowers us to make a statement and embrace our unique sense of style with unwavering confidence.

3. Timeless Elegance: Yellow is timeless. From soft pastel tones to bold ochre shades, yellow lends an air of sophistication and charm to any setting. Its versatility allows for seamless integration into a myriad of design styles, ensuring an elegance that withstands the test of time.

Examples of historical uses of yellow in interior spaces:

One of the most famous rooms in English interior design history is now Grade II listed and was in an early building of Lancaster’s design firm Colefax and Fowler. The large drawing room was painted in pretty much every shade, tone, tint and texture of the warming, canary colour.

If I entered these rooms, I would never leave! I'm in yellow nirvana! :)
